SHAH ALAM: A former staff of the Selangor Menteri Besar's Office has been remanded for three days over her alleged involvement in graft and abuse of power related to the awarding of projects to provide souvenirs to the office last year.
The Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) obtained the remand, which was granted by magistrate Khairul Nizam Abu Bakar, at the Shah Alam court today.
The former administrative assistant, aged 38, will be investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 for soliciting and receiving gratification.
She was believed to have accepted bribes worth RM16,566 from the owner of a company supplying souvenirs last year in return for putting in recommendations to the Selangor Menteri Besar's Office.
She risks a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine of RM10,000, or five times the amount of the bribe, whichever is higher.
Two other individuals, the owner of the company aged 59, and his 52-year-old wife, have also been remanded for three days for investigation.
The wife is believed to have conspired with the duo.
The former administrative assistant was arrested at her workplace at 12.30pm while the husband and wife were detained at 3.30pm yesterday.
