TNB officer remanded for bribery

SEREMBAN: The Special Remand Court here today allowed an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to remand a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) officer for his alleged involvement in a RM280 bribery case.

The court granted a three-day remand against the 38-year-old suspect starting today to assist in investigations under Section 17 (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

A source said, the accused had allegedly asked RM280 from a man yesterday, as inducement to speed up electricity supply connection process at his new house in Taman Tuanku Jaafar Senawang.

He said, the complainant had asked for electricity connection at TNB's office on Sept 18, but no representatives from TNB had come to his house.

"The complainant was curious and went to the TNB's office again to check. He met the suspect again and the latter had asked for RM280 to speed up the process," he said.

"The complainant was not satisfied and lodged a report to MACC which led to the arrest of the suspect at his office yesterday.

"During the arrest, the money, believed to be paid by the complainant was also found with the suspect," he said.
