KUALA LUMPUR: In the effort to combat the usage of drugs in entertainment outlets, police has nabbed 47 people for various drug offences at a club and karaoke joint in Cheras on Saturday.
In the operation, a total of 53 people were checked, with 47 people including locals, China, and Myanmar citizens arrested.
Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Ghani Mohamad Ji said the operation was conducted at Crown City and Mid Fields Square in Sungai Besi, here.
“Apart from the arrests, police also seized a packet of powdered ecstasy weighing 170.63g, seven packets of ketamine, 12 ecstasy pills and medazepam pills.
“In total, the operation saw 38 people arrested under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (for drug trafficking), one person under Section 39A(1) of the Drug Dangerous Act 1952 (increased penalty for prescribed amount of drug) and eight under Section 15(1)(a) of the same act (for administering drugs to himself),” he said.
Those arrested were taken to the Cheras district police headquarters and would be remanded.
The operations were conducted between 1am and 7am, where a team of 13 policemen were deployed.
On Friday, Cheras narcotics department had raided an entertainment outlet in Jalan Pudu and nabbed 18 for various drug offences.
Ghani said police also seized four Erimin 5 pills and 1.17g of ketamine.
City police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim had recently said the focus this year and next would be to curb the number of street pushers, usage of drugs in entertainment outlets and at the People's Housing Project.
