JOHOR BARU: A drug trafficking syndicate in Muar has been using YouTube to learn how to manufacture their own version of Ecstacy.
Their activity was discovered after a team from the Muar Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department raided a shed in Jalan Sulaiman on Friday.
Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said besides a variety of drugs, the team also seized ingredients and equipment used to manufacture Ecstacy.
"We also found evidence that the syndicate members have been referring to YouTube to learn how to make the drugs," said Khalil, adding that two men aged 31 and 41 were arrested during the raid.
Police also seized 13,444.5 grammes of Ecstacy powder, 362.3 grammes of ketamine, 299.3 grammes of marijuana and 53 grammes of syabu at the shed.
"The drugs are valued at about RM1.4 million and we believe they are intended for the local market."
Khalil said police also seized an assortment of chemicals and ingredients as well as equipment used to manufacture Ecstacy as well as three cars and RM4,000 in cash.
"Both of the suspects have records for drug-related offences. They both tested positive for methamphetamine and have been remanded until Jan 26 to help in the investigation," said Khalil at a Press conference here today.
He said police was currently trying to identify the distribution network for the syndicate.
The case was being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
