KUALA LUMPUR: Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah, better known as Ratu Naga on Facebook, has denied involvement in a video claiming that Bangladeshi nationals were given identity cards.
Syarul, 38, said this after giving her statement to authorities at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters yesterday to facilitate investigations into the case.
She said prior to this, a group of officers from Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had visited her home recently.
“However, at the time, I was outside with my two lawyers to discuss another case. I then received a call from MCMC asking to meet me,” she told reporters here today.
“At 10.30am (yesterday), I was interrogated over a viral video on the issue of Bangladeshi voters. The video was shared via a Facebook account that used my name and picture,” she claimed.
“I am now awaiting a call from MCMC for further action,” she added.
Syarul also said she was asked to surrender her smartphone and SIM card to facilitate the probe.
It was reported that an individual, who used the name Ratu Naga on Facebook, had uploaded a fake video alleging that Bangladeshi nationals were given identity cards.
It is believed that the video is several years old but had recently resurfaced on social media.
