BEAUFORT: A man, in a rage after his wife failed to return home, hurled what appears to be two Molotov cocktails at his father-in-law’s house here.
The fire damaged a door and chairs inside the house but none of the eight occupants, including the man’s wife and two children, were hurt in the attack on Friday night about 10pm.
District police chief Deputy Superintendent Azmir Abd Razak said the 34-year-old suspect had since been arrested following a report lodged by his wife about the attack at Kampung Melikai.
“The woman was in the house watching television with her elder sister when they heard something at the door before a fire broke out. They got everyone out of the house and managed to put out the fire.
“No one was injured,” he said, adding two bottles that still had traces of fuel inside were found at the scene.
“Initial investigations revealed witnesses saw a man approaching the house in a suspicious manner about 9.50pm,” Azmir said.
There were also claims that the man had some marital issues with his wife and both were in the process of getting a divorce, he added.
The suspect will be detained for investigations into arson.
