PUTRAJAYA: Police today confirmed that the man arrested for brandishing a kerambit during a football match at KLFA Football Centre last week is the same suspect wanted for a molotov cocktail attack on an entertainment centre in May this year.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said this was based on statements from witnesses, closed-circuit television camera recordings as well as interrogations on the suspect.
"The suspect is on the (police) wanted list.
"If we can recall, there was a case of an entertainment outlet hit by a molotov cocktail and he (the suspect) is the man (wanted in connection with the case).
"Suspect also had past criminal records," he told reporters here today.
Rusdi added that the suspect is expected to be charged at the Kuala Lumpur courts tomorrow for brandishing sharp objectas well as for the molotov cocktail case.
He said the suspect would be charged under Section 6 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958 with unlawful possession of corrosive and explosive substances and the carrying of offensive weapons.
The suspect, said Rusdi, would be also charged under Section 336 of the Penal Code for committing an act which could endanger personal safety and that of others as well as Section 435 for mischief by fire with the intent to cause damage.
It was reported that police detained a 22-year-old man and his girlfriend following an incident where he allegedly brandished a 'kerambit' during a football match at KLFA Football Centre.
Police arrested the man, believed to be an upcoming football player, and his 21-year-old girlfriend at his house in Klang on Aug 8.
It was also reported an entertainment outlet on Jalan Yap Kwan Seng caught fire after allegedly being hit with molotov cocktails on May 9.
A 45-second CCTV recording near the premises went viral on social media .
The clip shows four men riding two motorcycles stopping in front of the premises and throwing two molotov cocktails before fleeing.
