Man who stabbed girlfriend 28 times, charged with murder [NSTTV]

SHAH ALAM: A manager of a construction company is facing the death sentence after he was charged at the magistrate's court here today, with killing his girlfriend on March 10 by stabbing her 28 times.

Sobri Abdul Wahab, 40, nodded when the charges were read out before Magistrate Rini Triany Muhamad Ali, but no plea was recorded.

Based on the charge sheet, the man was accused of killing Indonesian woman, Gusnima, 38, at an apartment in Section U8, Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam.

He allegedly committed the crime between 6pm to 8pm on March 10.

Sobri was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code and if convicted, he could be sentenced to death.

Counsel to the accused, lawyer Khairul Naim Rafidi, had requested the court to send his client to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, Perak for a psychiatric evaluation and treatment.

He said the accused had previously undergone psychiatric treatment at the University Malaya Medical Centre in 2016, before opting for traditional medicine.

The court allowed an application for the accused to seek treatment at the hospital for a month in accordance to Section 342 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muad Ahmad Khairuddin and second mention has been set on April 12.

Gusnima was found dead earlier this week, after being stabbed 28 times. It was reported that Sobri had gone to her house to ask her to marry him.
