Seberang Prai Utara police deputy chief Superintendent C. Tharmalingam said the remand request was to allow police to conduct further investigation against the 43-year-old man.
The case is investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
"Based on initial investigations, the dispute between the suspect and his mother occurred when he had just returned home in a disheveled state.
"The victim, the suspect's aunt, tried to intervene in the argument.
"Enraged, the suspect proceeded to stab his 80-year-old aunt, resulting in her death. He also pushed his mother, who fell and was injured," he said today.

"The suspect is receiving treatment at Penang Hospital for head injuries, believed to have occurred when he fell while returning home before the stabbing incident," he added.
He said a urine test on the unemployed suspect was negative for drugs.
