KOTA BHARU: The unbearable stench from a sewage plant at Wisma Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) at Jalan Tok Hakim led to the discovery of the decomposed body of an unidentified man.
It is believed that the fully-clothed body, which at the time of discovery was already covered with maggots, had been lying in the area for a week.
TNB maintenance staff, Nik Sufian Nik Abdullah, 34, said his supervisor had earlier complained of the strong stench coming from the area at 10.15am.
Acting on his supervisor’s instruction, Sufian then went to check on the matter and found the body lying on its back.
“I immediately called the police and TNB’s management to alert them on the incident. I don’t know the man,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kota Bharu district police chief ACP Ismail Mat Sidik when contacted confirmed the discovery of the body.
He said the identity of the deceased had yet to be determined and the body was brought to Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab (HRPZ) II for autopsy.
“The police found RM14 cash in the victim’s pants’ pocket. We are still investigating the incident,” he said.
