Five-year-old boy in abuse case dies from blunt force trauma, post-mortem confirms

JOHOR BAHRU: Police have confirmed that the death of the five-year-old boy, believed to have been abused by his stepmother at their home in Bandar Dato’ Onn, was caused by blunt force trauma.

Johor Bahru South deputy police chief Superintendent Mohd Afzanizam Yahaya said when the victim was brought to the hospital, there were bruises and swelling on his right face, chest, abdomen and both thighs.

“The doctor has conducted a post-mortem and found the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the abdomen.

“A couple has been arrested to facilitate investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement today.

It was learnt that the Magistrate Court had ordered the couple to be remanded for seven days starting today until Jan 2.

Yesterday , NSTP reported that a five-year-old boy had died of circumstances related to physical abuse at the Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI).

HSI personnel alerted the police of the incident, saying that a boy was unconscious and brought to the hospital by the parents around midnight.

The boy was later pronounced dead at the emergency ward while receiving treatment.

Mohd Afzanizam said the couple, aged 23 and 33, were picked up at their home in Bandar Dato' Onn, near here yesterday.
