KUALA LUMPUR: The elderly woman found murdered and stuffed in a freezer died from chest injuries caused by blunt force trauma, said city police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa.
He said the police had yet to receive the full post-mortem report.
"The initial findings confirm that the victim's death was due to blunt force trauma to the chest," he said when contacted.
He also confirmed that the suspect, who was discharged from Universiti Malaya Medical Centre yesterday evening, was currently in custody at the Brickfields police lockup.
The 53-year-old suspect has been remanded until Nov 26 to assist with further investigations.
Rusdi also confirmed that the suspect is the son of the murdered woman.
He said the body of the victim was handed over to her husband at around 9am today at the UMMC Forensic Department.
"The victim and her husband had been separated for some time, and he was staying in Manjung Perak.
"He only found out about her death through articles published by the media and came forward to help with further investigations," he said, adding that police were still trying to ascertain the exact date of the murder.
To date, police have recorded statements from nine individuals facilitate further investigations, he said.
It was reported that the man who allegedly killed his mother and stored her body in a freezer for more than three years is still undergoing health and mental evaluation in a hospital.
Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the post-mortem on the elderly woman's remains to determine her actual cause and time of death was also in progress.
Earlier, it was reported that the suspect, who suffered from chronic disease and is believed to have recently suffered a stroke, had turned himself in to the police on Tuesday morning (Nov 12).
Led by the suspect, police found the 80-year-old woman's body wrapped in towel and plastic inside a freezer in the suspect's house.
Checks showed that the suspect did not have a criminal record, and his neighbours described him as a friendly person who smiled and engaged in conversation whenever they met.
