Cops bust online gambling ring, 26 Chinese nationals nabbed

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested 26 Chinese nationals, including four women believed to be members of an online gambling ring during a raid on a bungalow in Taman Hill View, Ampang, today.

Selangor Criminal Investigations Department (intelligence/operation) deputy chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Abd Hamid said the suspects, aged between 21 and 43, were rounded up in the operation which began at 11.30am.

“We seized 329 mobile phones, three laptops and a (desktop) computer believed to be used to promote online gambling activities to clients in China,” he told reporters at the location.

He said preliminary investigations had revealed that members of the syndicate were offered jobs here with salaries of almost RM5,000 a month, and were placed in a rented bungalow which had been turned into a gambling operation centre two months ago.

He said the syndicate usually moved from place to place to avoid detection.

Mohamad said the syndicate was able to receive bets amounting to at least RM48 million a day. He said the total amount of profit was still being determined.

He said the suspects were taken to the Ampang Jaya police headquarters for further action. -- Bernama
