MUAR: Police dismantled an online gambling syndicate operating as a call centre with the arrest of six suspects, including two women, during a raid at a house, here, yesterday (Aug 26).
The syndicate, which had been active since mid-2024, allegedly lured customers into online gambling before defrauding them once payments were received.
District police chief assistant commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said two of the six suspects had prior criminal records for gambling-related offences.
Acting on intelligence, police conducted a raid on the house and arrested the suspects, all in their 20s.
Raiz said police discovered several bank account details believed to have been used by syndicate members to receive payments from victims.
Also seized during the raid were computers and mobile phones.
Investigations are ongoing under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 for operating an illegal gambling centre.
