SEREMBAN: Police have seized 3,200 cartons of contraband cigarettes worth RM478,730, inclusive of unpaid customs duties, from three places in the Seremban district.
Negeri Sembilan acting Chief Police Officer Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop said six men, aged between 30 and 50, were arrested in connection with the seizure last Friday.
The cigarettes of various brands were seized by a team of about 20 officers and men during raids conducted between 8am and 12.30pm.
“The raids were conducted at three different locations – parking area of Taman Tunku Jaafar Industrial Park, a shoplot at Taman Tunku Jaafar Industrial Park and a house at Taman Sri Pinang, Labu,” he told a press conference here today.
The cigarettes are believed to be for sale in the local market and overseas.
“All the suspects have been remanded for 12 days from last Saturday to Wednesday under Section 116 (C) of the Customs Act 1967,” he added.
Police also seized four cars, business documents, two laptops, six mobile phones, cheque books, bank statements and passbooks, and RM5,640 in cash. – BERNAMA
