KAJANG: Police have crippled a ganja distribution ring with the seizure of almost a half a million ringgit worth of drugs.
Three men and a woman were also arrested following a series of raids in Semenyih last week.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said police initially arrested a couple around 11.30am following a raid at a house in Semenyih on Nov 15.
"We seized 2.1kg of ganja when we arrested the couple, aged 29 and 36. Our checks revealed that the man farmed prawns for a living," he said at the district police headquarters today.
He said police then arrested another man, aged 37, at a parking lot in the same area at 2.45pm on the same day and seized 5.27kg of ganja.
"We then conducted a follow-up raid at another house in Semenyih and arrested another man, aged 39.
"We also seized 28.9kg of compressed ganja, 7.58kg of marijuana buds, 120g of cigarettes laced with ganja as well as 2.95kg of ganja-laced electronic cigarettes."
Naazron said police seized RM499,974 worth of drugs and assets worth RM25,205.
"We believe the drugs were meant to be distributed in the Klang Valley.
"The husband-and-wife couple have been charged in court today, while the two other suspects are still under remand," he said, adding that police are tracking the whereabouts of other members of the syndicate.
He said they are also investigating where the syndicate got their drug supply from.
