Case still open, says Selangor CID chief on cop shot dead at police station

SHAH ALAM: The murder case of policeman Lance Corporal Valentino Mesa who was found dead with gunshot and slash wounds at Pinggiran USJ police station on Merdeka Day in 2017, is still open.

Selangor Criminal Investigations Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat said the 29-year-old man’s death was classified as murder, under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

“This case is a priority and we have not closed the files yet,” he said.

“Investigations are still ongoing and we want this case solved as soon as we can.

“However, we have yet to establish the motive of the murder or identify the suspects.

“So far, there are no new development.”

Fadzil was responding to comments by the victim’s father, 54-year-old Mesa Ugom, who had asked whether his son’s case had gone cold in an interview with a news portal yesterday.

Mesa said he had yet to be given a definite answer on the development of his son’s murder case despite contacting the authorities numerous times.

He said he had also sought the help of Julau member of parliament Larry Sng Wei Shien to raise the matter in the next parliamentary sitting.

Valentino, who was from Sarikei, Sarawak, and had served in the force for seven years, was found with gunshot and slash wounds at the station about 3.30am.

His body was found at the station’s front desk counter by his colleagues who had just returned from routine patrols.
