IPOH: An Indian national died after he was allegedly assaulted by at least three individuals at a barber shop in Pekan Razaki here yesterday (June 8).
The 56-year-old victim, who worked at the barber shop, died at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital at 2.15am as he was receiving treatment.
It is understood the victim suffered severe injuries to his torso.
Ipoh deputy police chief Superintendent Mazuki Mat said police received a report on the victim's death from the hospital at 2.35am.
He said initial investigations showed that the victim was brought to the hospital by a friend before he was pronounced dead. Initial medical reports, he added, showed that the victim died from the injuries he suffered during alleged assault.
"Further investigations conducted by the Forensics Department at the crime scene found 15 blood spots on the shop's wall, sofa and rest area, which were wiped clean.
"Following the incident, police arrested three men aged between 20 and 40 to facilitate investigations," he said when contacted today.
He said police were unable to obtain any footage of the incident as the closed-circuit television camera at the shop was inoperable.
Police officers, he added, confiscated a shirt and a pair of shoes belonging to one of the suspects who were arrested.
"A post-mortem examination will be conducted at the hospital's forensics department at 8.30am to determine the cause of the death. Investigations are being carried out under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said.
