'Spiderman' arrested in Melaka

MELAKA: A man from Bangladesh who abused his tourist visa to moonlight as ‘Spiderman’ was nabbed by Melaka Immigration Department officers along Jalan Kota, Bandar Hilir, here, yesterday.

The man was detained at about 4.20pm as he was waiting for tourists to snap photos with him.

State Immigration director Mohd Fauzi Abdullah said the 38-year-old dressed as Spiderman and charged children and tourists who wanted to be photographed with him.

He said the man imposed a fee of RM5 for each photo taken with him. He also allegedly has an assistant, a female in her 40s and a child who helped him sell toys.

"It is understood that he previously had an employer but is now moving on his own.

"This man will go to tourist spots to look for kids and will only be at a certain location for a short time," he said when contacted.

He informed that checks conducted on the man found that the copies of the documents he carried were false.

"He is now being detained for overstaying and the case is investigated under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1958/63," Mohd Fauzi said.
