IPOH: Perak police have submitted its investigation papers on the case of an Indonesian maid, who was allegedly was raped by a state exco, to the state public prosecution director for review.
Perak police chief Datuk Razarudin Husain said his team was still waiting for the forensic and medical reports to complete the investigation papers.
"The two reports will be available within two to three weeks," he said after attending the monthly rally at the state police contingent headquarters here today.
When asked to comment on the detention of the exco, Razarudin said there was no biased element in the investigation as it was guided by a standard operating procedure (SOP) and the law.
"Our stand is this, when we investigate a case, we have to detain the suspect especially if he interferes with the investigation or threatens the victim.
"Secondly, we have to detain the suspect or the person charged if he is likely to flee. If not, we will not have him detained.
"So, under the law, bail is given to a bailable offence. In this case, we offered a bail not because we are biased or the fact that the accused is an exco. The assumption is wrong," he added.
Razarudin said the 23-year-old maid had been placed in a safe house in Malaysia under the care of the Indonesian embassy.
According to him, the investigation is being conducted under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
Earlier, the media reported that the victim lodged a police report at the Jelapang Police Station on July 8, claiming he had been raped by the exco at his employer's house in Meru.
