Couple arrested after four-year-old girl under their care dies from abuse

SHAH ALAM: A husband and wife were arrested yesterday after a four-year-old girl under their care died on Sunday.

Both of them were also suspected to have abused two other children aged five and eight.

South Klang police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsul Amar Ramli said around 1.20pm on Sunday, the police received a call about a four-year-old girl who died at her babysitter’s house in Jalan Yadi, Klang, and the death was confirmed by the medical personnel that were despatched to the house.

A post-mortem on the girl’s remains conducted on Monday found that she died after sustaining injuries on her abdomen due to blunt force trauma.

“There were new and old injuries on her body. Both suspects, male aged 36 and a woman aged 30, were arrested at 11am yesterday in Klang,” he said.

During investigation, investigating officers conducted checks on two boys who were brought in by the suspects and found physical injuries, believed from abuse by the couple.

Initial investigation found that the two boys are the woman’s children from her first marriage.

“The boys are now receiving treatment at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital. Further investigation also found that the couple had just gotten married in Sarawak four months ago.

“We are applying for remand order against the suspects and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” he concluded.
