IPOH: A babysitter has been remanded for six days following the death of a two-year-old toddler under her care at her home in Taman Cempaka here.
The remand order against the 30-year-old woman was granted by magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhammad Dan.
The remand which starts today until Aug 13 is to facilitate investigations under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a maximum jail sentence of 10 years or a fine of up to RM20,000, or both, upon conviction.
It was reported that police arrested the woman yesterday evening following the death of the girl.
Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said police received a report from the girl's father on Monday at 7.20pm after he found his daughter unconscious at the babysitter's house.
Azizi said the victim was then rushed to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here for further examination.
However, on the following day, at about 11.10pm, police were informed by the pediatricians that the girl had died.
A post-mortem examination was conducted yesterday at 10.45am and the cause of death was determined to be a head injury due to blunt trauma.
