SEREMBAN: A total of 69 illegal immigrants were arrested by the State Immigration Department in a joint-operation conducted at Nilai and Senawang yesterday.
State Immigration Department deputy director Amrih Siatoh said those arrested were all men who were aged between 20 and 45.
Amrih said 110 illegal immigrants were screened in the operation that was led by the state deputy assistant director Mohd Azreen Mohd Amin with 19 enforcement officers at the two locations.
“The operation was conducted from 9am to 10pm at a factory in Nilai Utama industrial park and three locations in Senawang.
“After the inspections, 28 Bangladeshis, 23 Indonesians, 10 Pakistanis, seven Indians and a Myanmar were nabbed over various offences,” he said today.
Amrih said one of the Indonesians was arrested in front of a restaurant in Senawang when he was selling illicit cigarette.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not having valid travel pass and overstaying as well as under Rule 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
He said all arrested were brought to Lenggeng Immigration Detention Centre for further action.
“Based on the complaints, we found out that Nilai and Senawang were new areas for foreigners.
"Immigration Department welcomes members of the public to channel information on illegal immigrants at their respective areas to us,” he said
