KUALA LUMPUR: A 37-year-old man was detained in Kota Emerald, Rawang near here on Thursday after he was caught on camera stealing woman's underwear.
Gombak police chief Assistant Commissioner Arifai Tarawe said the man’s arrest followed a complaint lodged by a woman on Wednesday.
The woman, from Bandar Country Homes, told police that her undergarments had often gone missing after she hung them out to dry.
“At about 10am on Wednesday, the victim found three pieces of undergarments which had been hung on a clothesline missing,
“Upon checking her closed circuit television footage, she saw a man wearing a hat and face mask stealing her undergarments.
“The victim said she began noticing that her undergarments would usually go missing over the past few months. Losses are estimated at RM600,” he said in a statement, as reported by Berita Harian.
Arifai said Rawang police subsequestly traced the man, who is a glass worker, to an area in Kota Emerald and detained him at 6.51pm on Thursday.
Police are working to obtain a remand order in the investigation classified under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
