GEORGE TOWN: Police here have solved 22 house break-in cases at a condominium in Jalan Kalawei, Persiaran Gurney with the arrest of a doctor recently.
The 38-year-old suspect was arrested at about 6pm on April 23 from the same condominium where the break-ins occurred.
During interrogation, he led a raiding party to the third room in his house where he kept some of the stolen items.
Among items recovered by police were 26 laptops, 67 mobile phones, six televisions, eight identification cards, three Japanese passports, and three cameras.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong confirmed the arrest.
He said investigations showed the doctor would break into units early in the morning by sneaking past unlocked doors and taking items from the living rooms.
"Our investigations showed that he has been active since 2014 and has stolen items worth RM493,615," he said.
The doctor, who has a clean record, has since been remanded until May 1.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house breaking which carries a maximum 14-years' imprisonment.
In a separate case, police crippled a burglary group at Tanjung Tokong with the arrest of three including a married couple recently.
Police raided the 37th floor of the apartment and detained a 34-year-old unemployed man at about 8pm on April 23.
The suspects led police to a house in Batu Ferringhi where several items including branded wallets and bags were seized.
With the arrest, police believe they have solved 13 house break-in cases reported since early this month with total losses amounting to RM296,350.
