KUALA LUMPUR: It looks like parties in the bankruptcy proceedings involving Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun have reached an agreement to settle the matter.
Rina's counsel Husain Mohd Razak said the issue could be settled as soon as possible.
He said this to reporters at the Court Complex here after the debtor summons involving Rina and production company Sarl Novovision was heard before deputy registrar Farah Shuhada Ramli at the High Court today.
Husain said his client was unable to attend the proceeding before due to personal matters.
"Unfortunately my client has an emergency which could not be avoided.
"Thus the court has fixed Oct 22 for another case management and Insyallah (God willing) my client will attend it," he said when met after the proceedings.
Meanwhile, counsel Mark Ho who represented Sarl Novovision said the minister has proposed new settlement terms with his client.
"I am sorry but I am not at liberty to reveal anything about it pending court proceedings.
"However, today the minister handed cheques as instalment payment and on that basis, the court granted new date for the judgement debtor summons," he said.
It was reported that Rina through her now-defunct companies Eurofine (M) Sdn Bhd, Fine Mobile Network Sdn Bhd and Fine TV Network Sdn Bhd, had purchased several comedy shows and documentaries worth millions of Ringgit from the French-based production company between 2011 and 2013.
However, the companies were closed down between Dec 2013 and Aug 2015, respectively.
Rina and another company director, Ida Rahayu Md Noor, had in May 2014 entered into a guarantee agreement with Sarl Novovision that they would personally and jointly undertake all liabilities of the companies.
In April last year, a consent judgement was entered between both parties after the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's Women's chief failed to settle the disputed amount.
A judgement debtor summons is a summons issued by the court to be served on the judgment debtor to compel the person to appear in court to provide information about their assets and how they can be disposed of to settle the judgement debt.
