Man jumps to his death from Sri Petaling condo after cancer diagnosis

KUALA LUMPUR: A man jumped from the 16th floor of a condominium in Sri Petaling here yesterday after being diagnosed with Stage Three colon cancer.

Brickfields district police chief Assistant Commissioner Zairulnizam Mohd Zainuddin said the 60-year-old was alone in the unit when the incident occurred.

"The man's wife noticed her husband standing on the unit's balcony when she arrived at the building's entrance.

"She rushed up (to their condominium unit), but the husband had jumped," he said in a statement today.

Zairulnizam said a police investigation revealed that the victim's behaviour changed after he was confirmed to have advanced cancer.

"He had previously tried to hang himself because he felt worthless.

"His body was sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem. Family members later claimed his remains," he said, adding that police have classified the case as sudden death.
