AMPANG JAYA: A 16-year-old girl attempted suicide recently by drinking floor cleaning detergent, as she was traumatised from being raped multiple times by her own father.
Police have since arrested the father, who is allegedly to have begun sexually abusing his daughter since February.
The 42-year-old suspect is believed to have committed the crime at their house in Bukit Antarabangsa, Ampang.
An initial investigation revealed that he has a criminal record for raping his sister-in-law.
"Last Sunday, the victim decided to run away from home and ended up at the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) in Cheras, alone.
"Police detained the girl at TBS, as she did not have the travel permit needed under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).
"In her statement, the victim said she wanted to go back to her mother in Kuala Nerang, Kedah, as she could not stand what her father had been doing to her. Her parents were divorced in 2004 after she was born," District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Farouk Eshak said at a press conference here, today.
He said the victim had attempted suicide in June by drinking floor cleaning detergent.
"The victim is the only child and still schooling in Ampang. The suspect operates an office cleaning services company.
"Further investigations revealed that the suspect won custody of his daughter in Sept 2019 and brought her to stay with him at Bukit Antarabangsa.
"Also living in the same house are the victim's stepmother and four step-siblings.
"It is believed that the suspect had been raping his daughter in the early morning period when the other family members were still sleeping," he said.
The man was remanded for a week, ending today.
