Restaurant worker jailed 4 months for molesting woman

KUALA LUMPUR: An Indian national Allah Pitchai Bazeeth Mohamed was sentenced to four months' jail for molesting a 31-year-old woman near a pedestrian walk in Setapak two weeks ago.

Magistrate Aina Azahra Arifin meted out the sentence against the accused after he pleaded guilty to the offence today.

The 26-year-old who worked in a restaurant assaulted or used criminal force to outrage the modesty of the woman near Jalan Megan Setapak at 8am on Nov 13.

The offence falls under Section 354 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years or a fine, or whipping, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Zuraidi Zulkifli asked for a deterrent sentence.

However, Allah Pitchai who was unrepresented pleaded for a minimum sentence, stating that he was remorseful and could not pay a fine.

Meanwhile, at the same court, another Indian national T. Suresh Kumar was sentenced to three months' jail for stealing clothes at a shopping mall worth RM129.50 last week.

Aina meted out the sentence against the 21-year-old after he pleaded guilty to stealing three shirts, sunglasses, and a pair of shoes belonging to a company Yee Fong Hung (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd at a Brands Outlet, Fahrenheit 88, Bukit Bintang, here on Nov 16.

He was charged under Section 380 of Penal Code which carries maximum 10 years imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.
