KUALA LUMPUR: The businessman who allegedly beat up his two bodyguards and threatened them at gun point for fasting, was hauled to the Magistrate's court again today to face four more charges of assault.
Chung Chee Yang, 43, pleaded not guilty to all the charges before magistrate Mohamad Fared Abdul Latif.
On the first and second counts, the accused was alleged to have voluntarily caused hurt to Ahmad Shamsuri Zailani, 27, inside the elevator and at the lobby of One KL Condominium in Dang Wangi, here, between 8.40pm and 8.43pm on April 13.
Chung also faced two similar charges against another victim, Mohd Azminizam Zulkepli, 44, at the same place and time.
The offences under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to a year or fine of up to RM2,000, or both, if convicted.
Deputy public prosecutor Nor Ashikin Mokhtar proposed RM20,000 bail for each of the charge considering the seriousness of the offences.
She said as an employer, Chung should have protected his workers and not hurt them in such way.
"The case involves issues of sensitivity on religion and the society as a whole. It is a serious offence.
"The victims had worked for the accused between three and seven years but were treated as such," she said.
In pleading for a lower bail, counsel Abdul Hakeem Aiman who represented the accused said his client had given full cooperation to the police throughout the investigation of the case and that the accused was not a flight risk.
He said his client, a sole breadwinner is also suffering from various medical conditions and needs medical attention.
"He has a wife, four children, and his parents to maintain... apart from that, he is suffering from colon cancer, insomnia and high blood pressure," the lawyer said.
The court then allowed Chung RM10,000 bail for all the charges with one surety.
His case will be up for mention on June 2.
Yesterday at the Klang Magistrate's court, Chung and his personal assistant Choo Hin Voon pleaded not guilty to multiple charges.
Chung was charged with criminal intimidation by threatening Azminizam by pointing a pistol at the victim.
He also faced two counts of abetting Choo by giving instructions to the latter to intentionally cause hurt to both the victims using a rotan.
He was also charged with uttering words to the two victims with deliberate intent to hurt their religious feelings and voluntarily causing hurt to Azminizam.
Meanwhile Choo, 43, was charged with two counts of voluntarily causing hurt to both victims.
They were allowed bail of RM50,000 and RM20,000 respectively and were ordered to surrender their passports to the court an report to the police station once a month until the case is disposed of.
It was reported that a 43-year old businessman was arrested for allegedly assaulting and threatening his two workers for fasting.
The two victims who were the suspect's bodyguards had suffered severe bruises and blood clots as a result of being assaulted with canes by their boss and some of his employees.
The victims were also believed to be threatened at gun point.
