Newborn baby found dead in Batu Pahat

BATU PAHAT: A newborn baby girl, with the umbilical cord still attached, was found dead inside a plastic box behind a business premises in Jalan Kluang, here, yesterday.

Batu Pahat police chief Assistant Commissioner Ismail Dollah said police were alerted of the matter about 6.40pm.

"Initial investigations revealed that the baby had been abandoned for more than 24 hours based on the condition of the body.

"We have reviewed a close circuit television (CCTV) recording of the business premises nearby showing a man placing the box there on April 27," Ismail said in a statement.

Ismail said the body has been sent to the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital for a post mortem.

"The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for hiding a birth by disposing off the body," he said.
