Man with pink wristband compounded RM4,000 for loitering at food complex

KEPALA BATAS: A man, who still has his pink wristband on, was among 27 people issued with compound during a standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance operations here yesterday.

The pink Covid-19 quarantine wristband usually signifies someone under home quarantine.

Seberang Prai Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said police had received a tip-off about the matter while carrying out the operations.

He said checks showed the 58-year-old man was loitering at the Telok Air Tawar food complex in Butterworth, with his pink wristband on.

"Further checks showed the man was still under home quarantine and the wristband belongs to the Heath Ministry.

"As such, we slapped him with RM4,000 compound for being in a public place during quarantine," he said.

Besides the man, 26 others, aged between 46 and 61, were also issued with compound during the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0.

The remaining 25 men were slapped with RM1,500 compound each for gathering in public places without valid reasons.

"The overall compounds issued on Monday alone totalled RM78,500.

Until today, 237 compounds have been issued amounting to RM694,000.

"Among the offences include absence of physical distancing, no face masks and crossing state and district lines," he added.
