TELUK INTAN: Police arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly dragging a cat on the road while he was riding a motorcycle in Langkap here yesterday.
The incident was captured by a motorist and the 34-second video has gone viral on social media.
Hilir Perak district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Adnan Basri said the man was arrested after he surrendered himself at Langkap Police Station at 9pm yesterday.
Ahmad Adnan said that the man from Kampung Melayu then lodged another police report denying that he was the person in the viral video.
"According to the man, he caught the cat to be dumped in the shop area near his house.
"He used a hand net to catch the cat and while on his way to a nearby restaurant, the cat's forelegs had come out of the net causing the cat to be dragged on the road," he said.
Ahmad Adnan said that the man was released on police bail this morning and the case would be referred to the deputy public prosecutor for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 428 of the Penal Code for mischief by killing or maiming an animal and Section 29 (1) (e) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015.
