PORT KLANG: The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) seized 5,000 kilogrammes of animal feed without a valid import permit at North Port, here, last Saturday.
Selangor Maqis director Zamri Hashim said the seizure was made during a routine inspection at 11.30am.
Enforcement officers checked a container which was filled with the imported animal feed worth about RM45,302.75.
"The animal feed from Brazil was confiscated for further action as it did not have any valid import permit," he said in a statement today.
Zamri said the import of any agricultural produce without a valid import permit is an offence under Section 11(1) of the Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728) which is punishable under Section 11(3) of the same Act.
It carries a fine of less than RM100,000 or jail not more than six years or both upon conviction.
"Maqis is enforcing laws at the country's entry points to ensure the nation's food security is protected," he said.
