KUALA LUMPUR: An entrepreneur active in the hotel and shipping industries in Malaysia is now being hunted by the police as he is believed to be the mastermind of a drug trafficking syndicate.
Police have issued an arrest warrant against the suspect, including informing the Interpol as he is believed to be overseas, according to Deputy Inspector General of Police Datuk Razarudin Husain.
He said the suspect is using his legal businesses as a front to cover his illegal activities.
"We have also informed the Interpol to help track him down as we believe he is in another country in Asia," he said in a press conference at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol), here, today.
Razarudin said the Royal Customs Department seized a container filled with drugs believed to be linked to the suspect in Port Klang this year.
"We believe the drugs seized were meant for distribution in the northern part of the Peninsular," he said.
On a separate matter, he informed that police busted 279 drug trafficking syndicates this year with 1,147 syndicate members detained.
Most of these syndicates were international syndicates which also saw the arrest of several suspected 'kingpins'.
