Cops fire shots after drug trafficking suspect becomes aggressive

NILAI: Police were forced to fire two shots in their attempt to arrest two foreigners, suspected of trafficking drugs, after one of them became aggressive at Bandar Baru Putra Nilai here yesterday.

The case unfolded when a team from the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department spotted the suspects acting suspiciously inside a car in the parking lot of a flat in the area at 4.30pm.

District police chief Superintendent Abdul Malik Hasim said one of the suspects acted aggressively in his attempt to evade arrest after noticing police presence at the scene.

He said the situation forced the police to fire the gunshots in self-defence before they arrested the suspects.

"The team found a brown package containing 2.27kg of cocaine worth RM430,000 when they inspected the Perodua Bezza driven by the suspects," he said in a statement.

He added that police seized the car to facilitate investigations into the case.

Abdul Malik also said both suspects have been remanded for seven days since yesterday to assist in investigations into the case under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking and Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.

"The public with information on the case can contact the Nilai district police headquarters' operation centre at 06-7904222," he said.
