KUALA LUMPUR: Three police reports have been lodged against one of the lawyers representing Rumah Bonda founder Siti Bainun Ahd Razali who has been charged with neglecting and abusing a Down Syndrome teenager.
The reports were lodged against Hafidzah Hassan for allegedly tweeting information and cross-examination details involving Yasmin Nahar Mahmood, who is one of the witnesses in the on-going court case.
The reports were lodged by social activist Mona Din on behalf of Malaysia Down Syndrome Association, Persatuan Warga Sindrom Down Negeri Selangor president Hanizan Hussin and Hairun Nizah Abd Shukor from Persatuan Bunga-Bunga Syurga Down Syndrome Malaysia at the Pudu police station here at 11.47am today.
Enclosed together with the police reports were screenshot of the social media posting on the cross- examination details made by Hafidzah on her Twitter account.
According to the police reports, the associations said it was inappropriate for Hafizah to share details on the cross-examination on her social media account since court case was on-going and that it could create public discussions, speculations as well as triggering public anger over the case.
Checks by the New Straits Times showed the posting made by Hafidzah on her Twitter account over the case had since been taken down after she was criticised by other social media users.
Siti Bainun, 30, had pleaded not guilty to two charges of abusing and neglecting the teenage girl to the point of the victim suffering injuries, physically and emotionally.
The offences were allegedly committed at a condominium in Wangsa Maju here between February and June 2021 under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 which carries a jail sentence of up to 20 years or fine of RM50,000 or both upon conviction.
