RANTAU PANJANG: A man was arrested in possession of 202 boxes and 56 bottles of smuggled cosmetic products worth nearly RM10,000 here today.
The 24-year-old man was travelling in a four-wheel-drive vehicle when he was detained by members of the General Operations Force (GOF) about 7.45am.
GOF Seventh Battalion commander Superintendent Azhari Nusi said the GOF members were conducting routine surveillance when they spotted the suspect at the Pasir illegal jetty.
"The GOF members saw the vehicle leaving the illegal jetty and immediately asked the driver to stop.
"When they checked the interior, they found various cosmetic products inside boxes and bottles. They nabbed the local man," he said in a statement.
Azhari said initial investigations revealed that the products were smuggled in from Thailand for distribution to suppliers in Pasir Mas.
"The suspect claimed that he was paid about RM200 to send the products to the suppliers," he added.
