PASIR MAS: A woman who is seven months pregnant was shot dead in her car near here yesterday.
Police have detained a suspect, known to the 26-year-old victim, to assist in the investigation.
Kelantan acting police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said they received a report from the public at about 4pm and immediately deployed a police party to the scene at Kampung Repek.
"The woman's body was found on the the driver's seat with a gunshot wound to her left abdomen.
"The car which was registered under the victim's name, was found abandoned by the roadside since Friday evening.
"An interview with the victim's mother revealed that she was about seven months pregnant," he said in a statement.
Zaki said police have nabbed the 40-year-old suspect, who is a labourer, shortly after the victim's body was discovered.
He said the victim's body was sent to Pasir Mas Hospital for a post-mortem.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
