CHUKAI: The main suspect in the incident which saw a 15-year-old teenager being set on fire at Kampung Perasing Jaya, Jabor Kemaman, here, has been remanded for five days.
The remand order on the suspect, who is unemployed, was issued by magistrate Tengku Eliana Tuan Kamaruzaman at the Kemaman magistrate's court today.
The remand order will enable the police to investigate the suspect under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
Kemaman police chief Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan said the 28-year-old suspect was arrested at 6pm yesterday at a house in Perasing Kemaman.
A urine test conducted on the suspect found him positive for methamphetamine.
"Police investigation also found that the suspect has four previous records related to drugs.
"Five other individuals, aged 18 to 25, who are believed to be involved in the case, have also been arrested to help the investigation," he said.
Hanyan added all other suspects were also remanded for six days, beginning yesterday.
In Friday's incident, all the suspects were believed to have set the teenager on fire after accusing the victim of stealing RM100.
The victim, who is a school dropout, was believed to have been doused with fuel before being set on fire, which caused burns on his neck, front and rear of his body.
The victim, who was in great pain, then returned home before informing his father of the incident at 3am.
He is currently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan.
