KUALA LUMPUR: High Court judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah today conducted a site visit to two bungalows at the centre of Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's corruption trial.
The judge spent about 30 minutes at the properties located at the gated Country Heights neighbourhood in Kajang.
The visit was arranged as part of court proceedings after the Umno president's lawyers requested for the judge to visit the properties and see for himself what they were used for.
The former deputy prime minister has been charged with criminal breach of trust over RM31 million belonging to charity foundation Yayasan Akalbudi.
The two houses were purchased in 2017 using RM5.9 million of the foundation's funds.
Sequerah was shown how the houses had since been converted to be used for religious classes.
Zahid has defended the purchase of the properties by saying that they were converted into centres for Islamic studies for public use.
The former deputy prime minister is facing 47 charges, including 12 counts of criminal breach of trust in relation to RM31million of charitable foundation Yayasan Akalbudi's funds, 27 counts of money-laundering and eight counts of bribery charges.
His trial will resume on Aug 5.
