KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak was admitted to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) yesterday due to his worsening health issues.
His lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said this when met after the case management of Najib's corruption hearing involving billions from 1Malaysia Development (1MDB) funds today.
Shafee told the court that his client's blood pressure was fluctuating.
"He needs to go through several health tests in the next few days.
"I was unable to obtain instructions from Najib as I was not allowed to visit him in HKL.
"Thus, I applied for today's proceedings to be vacated," he said.
Shafee said his client will be transferred to the National Heart Institute (IJN) today.
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Mohamad Mustaffa P Kunyalam did not object to an adjournment.
Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah allowed the adjournment of the proceedings.
It was reported yesterday that Najib while in the midst of his corruption trial, complained about his blood pressure and sought medical attention.
Lead prosecutor Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram then informed the court that Najib's blood pressure had changed due to his recent medication.
Sri Ram said the Prisons Department informed him that Najib's condition is quite bad as his new medicine has had an adverse effect on him.
Najib's daughter Nooryana Najwa, in her social media account, said the doctor discovered multiple new ulcers in her father's stomach when he was referred to the HKL on Saturday.
"Daddy had a scope on Saturday and the doctor discovered multiple new ulcers in his stomach. It (has been) a recurring problem for more than 15 years.
"During the scope, the doctor at HKL also did a biopsy which led to some bleeding and the ulcer had to be clipped to stop the bleeding," she said.
Nooryana pleaded with the prison authorities, the hospital and the government to "do the right thing" and allow Najib to receive proper medical care and observation.
Najib, 69, is facing four charges of using his position to obtain bribes totalling RM2.3 billion from 1MDB funds and 21 charges of money laundering involving the same amount.
Hearing will resume on Wednesday.
