High on drugs duo nabbed for accident

KUALA LUMPUR: A car driver high on drugs crashed into a lorry, before falling 'asleep' at Jalan Ipoh, Batu 5 on Friday afternoon.

His front seat passenger was also asleep and equally high.

In the 12.30pm incident, the driver of a Nissan Sentra crashed into the rear of a lorry, causing it to lurch forward and crash into a motorcycle infront of it.

A 44-second video clip of the incident has been making its rounds since the incident took place.

In the video the duo were seen to be drowsy, as though intoxicated.

Sentul District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Beh Eng Lai said preliminary investigation showed the 25-year old driver had fallen asleep while driving and crashed into the lorry.

"As a result of the crash, the lorry knocked into a motorcycle, causing the rider to fall from his motorcycle. But fortunately he did not sustain any injuries," Beh said in a statement today.

Beh said a team of policemen from Tun HS Lee who arrived at the scene noticed that the driver and his passenger, a 32 year old man, were both unconscious.

"The duo's condition raised police suspicion and they were both taken to the Dang Wangi police headquarters for a drug test.

"They tested positive to syabu or methamphetamine, ketamine, benzo or also known as Eramin 5, amphetamine and marijuana," he said.

Beh added that both suspects have been detained for further investigations.

"Anyone with information about the incident can contact the Jalan Tun H S Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-20719999 or the Kuala Lumpur Police Hotline at 03-20260267/69 or any nearby police stations."
