TAWAU: A driver suspected of being under the influence of drugs is believed to have caused an accident involving seven vehicles at Batu 3, Jalan Apas, here.
The incident occurred at 5.15pm yesterday. A 32-year-old man was arrested by police after the Perodua Kenari he was driving crashed into three parked vehicles in the area.
District police chief, Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin, said preliminary investigations revealed that the accident happened when the suspect was driving from Jalan Apas, towards the city centre.
As the suspect approached Mini Market 99 on Batu 3, Jalan Apas, he was seen driving recklessly, before crashing into three parked vehicles, and three moving vehicles, including a motorcycle.
"As a result of the accident, a 26-year-old motorcyclist sustained injuries to both hands, and knee.
"Initial investigations showed that the driver was under the influence of drugs," he said in a statement today.
Jasmin added that further investigations are ongoing and the case is being investigated under Section 44 (1) (a) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
