KOTA BARU: A trader in Tangok, near Bachok, resorted to hiding food dishes in a restroom and packed rice in a washing machine in order to sell food to Muslims who do not fast.
Her tactics, however, failed to fool Bachok Islamic Religious Office and Bachok District Council personnel who conducted at operation between 10am and noon on Sunday.
They found and seized more than 20 packets of rice with chicken as well as packets of iced tea.
Bachok Islamic Religious Office officer Suratemi Mat Yusof said the woman in her 40s, who was found to be selling the food and drinks out of her house, was given a warning.
He said the raid was conducted following a tip-off from the public, which led to his office conducting surveillance.
"When we questioned the house owner, she admitted to selling the food and drinks. She would pack the food and drinks and her 'customers' would contact her when they wanted to buy them," he said.
Suratemi said the woman was advised not to sell food and drinks to Muslims who were not fasting and she promised not to anymore.
He said the woman would also be called in for counselling.
"We did not detain anyone as her 'customers' all ran off when they realised we were about to conduct our operation."
