GLC CEO among 3 remanded by MACC [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has remanded three people including a government-linked company's chief executive officer for soliciting and accepting bribes.

The bribes, amounting to about RM600,000, was to assist a company to obtain a tender related to mechanical and electrical system upgrade works, which are part of a RM15 million project to upgrade a head office building in Jalan Ampang here.

According to a source, the three male suspects aged between 39 and 54 are believed to have been arrested at the MACC headquarters at about 8pm after giving their statements.

He said the first suspect, who is also the 52-year-old chief executive officer, received bribes amounting to about RM600,000 from a company through the second and third suspect as a reward for helping the company to obtain the upgrading works for the building.

The trio were brought to the Putrajaya magistrate's court for a remand application today. Magistrate Irza Zulaikha issued a four-day remand order until Monday to facilitate investigations.

When contacted, MACC senior director (special operation) Datuk Tan Kang Sai confirmed the arrest and said the trio were being investigated under Section 17a of the MACC Act 2009.
