KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) remanded three individuals, including a group chief executive officer suspected of misappropriating RM1.5 million from a public listed company.
It is believed that the misappropriation involved a construction and mining project valued at approximately RM80 million.
A four-day remand order was issued by Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin for two male suspects and one female suspect aged between 40 and 50 years old after the MACC's application was made at the Putrajaya magistrate's court this morning.
According to sources, all suspects were detained between 7pm and 9pm yesterday while they were giving statements at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.
"Initial investigations reveal that the suspects are not only suspected of misappropriating RM1.5 million from a public listed company involved in a construction and mining project worth around RM80 million, but all three are also believed to be involved in setting up a company that was not approved by the board of directors for the purpose of carrying out a cooperative project valued at approximately RM 258 million.
"Additionally, they are also suspected of misappropriating funds from the rental income of the company's property, amounting to approximately RM3 million," he said.
Meanwhile, MACC senior director (Investigations), Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim, confirmed the arrests and said that the case was being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
