Police seek witnesses in Ducati motorcyclist's fatal crash on SUKE highway

AMPANG: Police are calling on witnesses of the fatal accident involving a motorcyclist riding a Ducati Panigale on the Sungai Besi-Ulu Klang Expressway (SUKE) to come forward and assist in the investigation.

The 62-year-old motorcyclist, who was riding his machine from Ampang towards Hulu Klang, died in the 1.10pm accident.

Police said the biker had allegedly tried to avoid an oncoming motorcycle before losing control and crashing. His body was flung some 30 metres down the elevated highway, killing him instantly.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said no arrests have been made. He said police had obtained closed-circuit television recording (CCTV) from the highway concessionaire as part of the investigation process.

"We have obtained the relevant CCTV footage and are examining it. However, we are also hoping to speak to any eyewitness who may have seen the motorcyclist going against traffic or those who witnessed the incident," he said.

Azam added that investigators had sent the CCTV footage to the police forensics laboratory for scrutiny. He urged motorists with information about the incident or the motorcyclist who was spotted going against the traffic flow to contact the nearest police station.

It was reported that another unidentified motorcyclist had passed along the same stretch leading towards the direction of Ampang, seconds before the crash. It is believed that the motorcyclist could have seen the errant motorcyclist who rode his machine against the flow of traffic, that allegedly led to the accident.

Azam said the body of the deceased was released to the family after a post-mortem was conducted at Ampang Hospital yesterday.

"Based on the post-mortem report, the cause of death was multiple injuries due to a road traffic crash," he said.

Earlier, a video clip of the incident went viral, with many netizens blaming the motorcyclist riding against the traffic flow for causing the fatal accident.
