KUALA LUMPUR: Three policemen attached to the Shah Alam district police special branch unit were ordered to enter their defence for accepting RM2,000 bribe from a man who violated the Movement Control Order (MCO) two years ago.
Sessions Court Judge Rozilah Salleh made the decision after the she ruled that the prosecution had proved a prima facie case against Lance corporal Mohamad Taufik Abdul Aziz, 31; Constable Mohamad Fazli Nordin, 28; and Constable Shahrul Norhan Sirhan, 26, today.
All the accused have opted to testify under oath.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin prosecuted while lawyers Dinesh Muthal, Sharonpal Singh, Ayasamy Velu, and Mohamad Naim Kamarudin represented the accused.
The court fixed Aug 15 for mention.
According to the charge sheet, the trio had allegedly accepted the money from a 37-year-old man as an inducement not to report the latter who carried out unauthorised activities during the MCO.
The offence was allegedly committed near Jalan Kebun, Seksyen 30, here on June 25.
They were charged under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act.
The offence carries a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
They were released on RM5,000 bail.
