KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has remanded an enforcement officer suspected of soliciting and accepting a bribe from an individual to amend the section of an offence in a fraud case.
Magistrate Fatin Dayana Jalil ordered a five-day remand until August 4, following an application by the anti-graft agency at the Kuala Lumpur court complex in Jalan Duta this morning.
According to a source, the male suspect, aged in his 20s, was detained at his workplace at around 9.40pm last night.
"Preliminary investigations found that the suspect had requested and received a bribe of approximately RM5,000 from the complainant in exchange for amending the offence section in the fraud case charged against the complainant," the source said.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur MACC director Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Husin confirmed the arrest.
The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
